MANAMA, BAHRAIN - The Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR) is pleased to announce that the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, known as the "Singapore Convention on Mediation," officially took effect for the Kingdom of Bahrain on 17 August 2025.
This milestone follows Bahrain's formal accession to the Convention on 8 April 2025, making it the sixteenth State Party. The entry into force of this landmark treaty reinforces Bahrain's position as a modern and reliable hub for international dispute resolution and trade.
The Singapore Convention's entry into force significantly enhances BCDR's mediation services by providing a global, enforceable legal framework for international settlement agreements. This new level of enforceability, similar to that provided for arbitral awards under the New York Convention, elevates BCDR's mediation offerings and makes them a more attractive and effective option for resolving international commercial disputes. It boosts BCDR's role by offering parties a powerful mechanism to ensure that settlements reached through BCDR's mediation are enforceable across borders.
