The Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA), in collaboration with leading Arab and international arbitration experts, launched on 6 September 2014 a new International Arbitration Training Program. The program, which takes place at BCDR-AAA’s premises in the Diplomatic Area in Manama, Bahrain, is part of BCDR-AAA’s efforts to develop local and regional legal expertise in international arbitration, and to spread awareness of arbitration as a viable dispute resolution alternative.

The program, taught in Arabic, is comprised of three modules, with each module consisting of 12 training hours and spanning over two days. The first module provides an overview of arbitration and discusses issues related to the agreement to arbitrate. The second module covers the establishment and organization of an arbitral tribunal and the conduct of the arbitration proceedings. The third module deals with the enforcement and the annulment of arbitral awards.

The first module was taught by Dr. Adnan Amkhan Beno, Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Kent (Brussels), Dr. Hamzah Haddad, Founder and Managing Director of the Law and Arbitration Center and the Arab Institute for Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Settlement in Jordan, and Professor Nassib G. Ziadé, CEO of the BCDR-AAA and Visiting Professor of Investment Arbitration at the University of Miami School of Law and Professor of International Arbitration at the Faculty of Law of Saint-Joseph University (Dubai). Twenty-eight students from diverse professional backgrounds and sectors in Bahrain participated in the first module of the program. The program was made possible through support by Tamkeen for Bahraini candidates.
