Vice Chairperson participates in the International Council for Commercial Arbitration Judiciary Committee in Madrid

Professor Marike Patrani Paulsson, Vice Chairperson of the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR) and Secretary-General of the Council for International Dispute Resolution of the Kingdom of Bahrain, participated in the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) Judiciary Committee meeting during the 27th ICCA Congress, taking place in Madrid from 12 to 15 April 2026.

The meeting brought together committee members, together with Ms. Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), to discuss the Committee’s ongoing work to strengthen judicial understanding of international arbitration and the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and the UNCITRAL Model Law, and to foster a more informed and cohesive approach to international dispute resolution.

The Committee’s work is closely aligned with Bahrain’s prominent role in enhancing international commercial arbitration in the region, including the United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Arbitral Awards (New York Convention) Roadshows, and Bahrain’s active role in submitting proposals within the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law working groups.

Bahrain was the first country to host the regional New York Convention Roadshow in 2014, and it later co-hosted it again with Saudi Arabia in 2024, further reinforcing its contribution to judicial outreach and capacity-building across the region. Professor Paulsson’s involvement reflects Bahrain’s sustained engagement with leading international arbitration institutions and its commitment to advancing dialogue between the judiciary, treaty bodies, and the global arbitration community.
